Multiple English doubles pairings were in action at the ORLEN Polish International in Lublin last week.

There was no singles representation but five pairings in doubles action, with two teams reaching the quarter-final stage at the event.

In the men’s doubles Callum Hemming and Ethan Van Leeuwen were seeded sixth and won two matches on their way to the last eight.

Hemming and Van Leeuwen began their campaign with a 21-11 21-15 victory over Spaniards Francisco Olivares and Jaume Perez, before beating Canadian pairing Lai Yin Chung and Jackson Yang 21-19 14-21 21-8.

Their campaign came to an end in the next round when they were beaten 21-19 21-16 by Japanese duo Kazuhiro Ichikawa and Kohtaro Miyajima.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles Alex Green and Estelle Van Leeuwen reached the last eight before falling to eventual champions Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Lin Xiao Min.

Green and Van Leeuwen defeated Ukrainians Ivan Medynskiy and Anastasiia Prokopovych 21-15 21-17 in the opening round, before battling to a 21-19 19-21 21-15 win over Swedish duo Ludwig Axelsson and Jessica Silvennoinen.

They then fell 21-16 21-13 to the Chinese Taipei pairing, who had beaten eighth seeds Ethan Van Leeuwen and Chloe Birch in the previous round.

Van Leeuwen and Birch defeated Jaume Perez and Claudia Leal 21-8 21-9 in the opening round before being beaten 18-21 21-16 21-17 by Chieh and Min.

Also in mixed doubles action were Steven Stallwood and Hope Warner, who beat Polish pairing Wiktor Trecki and Magdalena Swierczynska 21-5 8-21 21-11 to start their campaign.

They were beaten 21-16 21-17 in the next round by Ming Che Lu and Chung Kan-Yu, the eventual tournament runners-up.

In the women’s doubles Abbygael Harris and Annie Lado were in action, losing 21-13 21-16 to Hsu Yin-Hui and Sung Yi-Hsuan.
