Ben Lane and Sean Vendy made the semi-finals of Syed Modi India International final after an impressive run in the sub-continent.
The men’s doubles second seeds got through a three-game thriller in the opening round, beating Lin Yu Chih and Su Li Wei 21-14 18-21 21-17, before easing into the quarter-finals with a 21-7 21-14 win against Thailand’s Pongsakorn and Wongsathorn Thongkham.
They then came from a game down against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Bing-Wei and Su Ching Heng in a remarkable match lasting an hour and 35 minutes, holding their nerve to win 16-21 23-21 28-26.
But the pair’s hopes were cut short against Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal of Malaysia, who claimed the semi-final encounter 21-12 21-19.
Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith made it to the round of 16 in the mixed doubles before being knocked out by Chang Ko-Chi and Lee Chih Chen.
Ellis and Smith knocked out the host country’s Farogh Sanjay Aman and Anagha Karandikar 21-16 21-13 in their opener but the next round saw Chang and Lee come back from a game down to win 13-21 21-14 21-19.
