Lisa Curtin and Miu Lin Ngan both picked up impressive opening round victories at the YONEX Slovenia Future Series in Otocec.

Curtin did not drop a game against Germany’s Antonia Schaller, winning 21-15 21-14 to reach the second round.

The English shuttler then saw her campaign come to a close, beaten 22-24 22-20 21-7 in a hard-fought encounter by Denmark’s Frederikke Ostergaard – who had knocked out the seventh seed in her previous match.

Meanwhile, Lin Ngan battled her way into the second round in Otocec, edging past Switzerland’s Azkya Aliefa Ruhanda 14-21 21-12 22-20 thriller.

And Lin Ngan was again in battling form in her next match, narrowly being defeated 19-21 21-18 21-19 by eighth seed Florentine Schoffski of Germany.

Alexandra Oprisan was also in action, losing 21-18 21-11 to third seed Clara Lassaux in round one.

Elsewhere, Nadeem Dalvi and Heng Lin Ngan were in men’s singles action in Slovenia.

Seeded fourth, Lin Ngan was beaten 22-20 22-20 by Danish qualifier Soren Hald, while Dalvi fell 21-18 22-20 to Malaysian qualifier Huan Kai Hern.
