The English National Badminton Championships are set to return in August as the cream of the crop go head-to-head in Milton Keynes.

The Championships will take place on August 21 and 22 at the National Badminton Centre, with entries open until July 28 – click here to find out more, including the entry requirements.

There will be no qualification process – formerly known as ‘Road to the Nationals’ – for this year’s event due to the lack of tournament badminton that has been able to be played so far in 2021.

Instead, acceptances will be made using the English National Rankings from July 2021 and the seeded positions determined by the BWF World Rankings as they stand on August 3.

There will be a valuable opportunity for players to tune up ahead of the Nationals on July 31 and August 1, when a Senior Gold tournament takes place at the NBC.

The online entry form for that event, which may be one of the only tournaments played in the run-up to the Nationals, can be found here.

The reigning national champions in the singles are Alex Lane and Chloe Birch, with the latter securing her fourth consecutive women’s crown in February last year.

She teamed up with her Olympic partner Lauren Smith to claim doubles glory while the men’s doubles was won by Tom Wolfenden and Gregory Mairs.

Max Flynn and Fee Teng Liew walked away with the mixed doubles trophy and the action is set to be as competitive as ever in the latest chapter of a tournament first played in 1964.
