World Seniors 1200

September was a busy month around the domestic badminton scene.

In our latest monthly round-up, we review the month that was and look ahead to some key upcoming dates.

World Senior Championships success

The start of September saw England top the medal table at the BWF World Senior Championships in Jeonju, Korea.

Carl Jennings was among the standout performers, medalling in three separate events – taking silver in the men’s singles, bronze in the men’s doubles alongside Mark King and silver in the mixed doubles with Caroline Hale.

Jennings and Hale were beaten in the final by Julie Bradbury, who teamed up with Denmark’s Carsten Loech to become one of several English gold medallists.

Jon Austin and Rajeev Bagga won the men’s doubles (MS55), while Betty Bartlett (WS70) and Mary Jenner (WS75) were successful in the women’s singles.

Bartlett and Jenner also topped the podium in the mixed doubles, pairing up with Peter Emptage (XD70) and Jim Garrett (XD75) respectively to win all-English finals – Graham Robinson and Cathy Alexander (XD70) and Ian Brothers and Jan Hewett (MD75) earning silver.

Garrett also won the men’s doubles with Michael Cox while Linda Coombes and Hewett (WD75) ensured a doubles clean sweep in the age category by claiming the women’s doubles crown.

Junior National – date change

Dates have now been set for the Age Group Nationals, which take place at the end of the 2023 season.

These dates for the Nationals have been adjusted from those originally published. Badminton Europe have only recently announced the dates of the European Qualifications for the Men’s and Women’s Team Championships, which will be held over the weekend of 9-10 December 2023.

As a result of this, and a subsequently identified clash for the U15 players and the Swedish Youth Games which was not apparent when setting the 2023 calendar, we are required to make some rearrangements to dates and venues.

Tournaments will now take place at the NBC over the following days:

  • U13 English National Championships – Nov 18-19
  • U19 English National Championships – Nov 25-26
  • English National Masters Championships – Dec 1-3
  • U17 English National Championships – Dec 2-3
  • U15 English National Championships – Dec 16-17
  • U11 English National Championships – Dec 17
