A significant increase in children’s participation in badminton has been announced today, being driven by participation outside of school.

The findings, from Sport England’s Active Lives Children and Young People report, shows that once a week participation has risen to 391,500, up from 350,700 last year.

Once a week participation outside of school also revealed an impressive rise to 286,000, from 260,900 last year.

There were also positive participation figures for badminton inside school, with once a week up from 279,600 to 311,900.

Guidelines

Within the overall sporting sector, almost half of children in England now take part in an average of 60 minutes of physical activity per day. This is up 3.6% from last year.

These figures mean that 3.3 million children now meet the new recommended Chief Medical Officer Guidelines. This is 279,600 more children than last year.
