We’ll make the Yonex All England Open 'the' Premier event

BADMINTON England today promised that the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2013 will be bigger and better than ever after the Badminton World Federation confirmed its continued status as one of the five Premier events on the OSIM BWF World Superseries circuit.

The Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, the oldest and most prestigious Open tournament in world badminton, is joined as a Premier event in the 2014-2017 Superseries cycle, by events in China, Indonesia, Denmark and the newcomer to the Premier circuit, Malaysia who replace Korea.

Adrian Christy, Chief Executive of BADMINTON England, said today: “We are absolutely delighted to have maintained our Premier status and I would like to thank the BWF for once again placing their confidence in BADMINTON England to continue to deliver a Championships of true Premier quality.”

“The All England is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar both in Britain and around the World and alongside the amazing history of the event, we have shown a determination to move with the times and develop our great Championships to one where we are attracting a live audience from the UK and around the world and a massive global television audience in excess of 300 million people.”

The announcement also confirmed that for the first time ever, the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships will offer US$500,000 in prize money from 2014 rising to $600,000 by 2017.


Superseries Premier: England, China, Denmark, Indonesia and Malaysia

Superseries: France, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and South Korea and two from India, and Australia.

The Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2013 will take place in Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena from March 5-10 as BADMINTON England prepare to celebrate 30 magnificent years of continuous title sponsorship by Yonex, the world’s No.1 badminton brand.
