The UK School Games

The 2nd annual UK School Games take place from 23rd – 26th August when children from all over the country, aged 17 and under, will converge on Coventry to compete in a range of sports including badminton. This is the first year the sport has been included in the event and teams from all four home nations will compete.

The UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the most talented young people in the country of school age. Each of the eight sports being contested are combined into a four-day Games environment designed to replicate the feel of major events such as the Olympic Games.

The thinking behind such an initiative is to try to create an inspirational and motivational setting which will encourage more young people to take part in sport while also offering increased competitive sporting opportunities for young people.

Badminton competitors will take part in a team competition on Friday 24th August with the individual competition taking place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August at Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre. Singles, level doubles and mixed doubles competitions will be held while other events such as athletics, fencing, gymnastics and volleyball will be held simultaneously around the city.

For the first time event's history, Channel 4 will broadcast two, one-hour UK School Games programmes from 8.00am to 9.00am on Sunday 16th and Sunday 23rd September.
