Club operation and insurance

Q: What financial support is available to clubs?

A: We have all suffered financially as a result of the pandemic, we are very aware that many clubs and coaches have also faced and will continue to face financial hardship. So we have announced a support package worth up to £250,000 to get our sport back up and running. We have listened to feedback from our members and have worked closely with Sport England over the lockdown period to put together a package that includes:

  • We have developed the Hardship Fund of up to £100,000 to support affiliated clubs and coaches affected by Covid-19.
  • Please note applications to the Hardship Fund are currently closed whilst we review existing applications.
  • An optional reduction and extension in membership fees for the 2020/21 season for clubs, members, and coaches of up to a value of £120,000 to help ease the financial pressures experienced by the badminton community.
  • A suite of free tools to enable clubs and coaches to manage and deliver Covid Secure sessions safely and effectively.
  • Free tools to help club administrators to reduce club costs.
  • Fundraising opportunities and membership marketing assistance to allow clubs to attract new members.

Q: Is there any support available to help manage my club and our finances?

A: A whole range of resources, support and tools to help you run your club can be found on the Badminton England Resource Hub.(free access to affiliated clubs). These include information relating to:

  • Financial guide
  • Financial tool
  • Safeguarding
  • Communications and marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Membership options
  • Virtual badminton club
  • Making singles more engaging
  • Vulnerable groups

Q: Is my insurance still valid?

A: Yes, your insurance is valid in the normal way so long as you are a current affiliated member of Badminton England.

Q: Is my club protected if a member claims they have contracted Covid-19 during a club session?

A: Yes the insurance policy protects your club in respect of third party bodily injury (including sickness). The onus would be on the member to prove that the club has been negligent which has resulted in their injury/sickness. With this in mind it is imperative that clubs are operating within the government guidelines and are actively managing social distancing, following the guidance we have provided. We recommend clubs to undertake basic risk assessment, working with their venue, to establish what measures need to be taken. You should also ask your venue for a copy of its risk assessment to ensure you and your players are comfortable with the measures put in place.

Q: As a Badminton England member am I insured to play at another club, as my main club currently hasn’t restarted?

Yes, as long as the club you are looking to play at is affiliated to Badminton England and you are an individual member of Badminton England, then the insurance will cover this. If you are an insured person, ie an affiliated member then it doesn’t matter which you club you play at, the cover provided under the membership affiliation will extend to cover you.
