National Volunteer Conference | March 2019

Badminton England welcome you to register for the inaugural National Volunteer Conference in Birmingham this March.

Date: Saturday 9th March 2019
Time: 11am-4pm (delegates arrive from 10am)

Location: International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham, B1 2EA

Cost: £10
(price includes 1 x ticket to the 2019 YONEX All England Badminton Championships (Saturday evening session only)) + refreshments and lunch.

Places are strictly limited.

The aim of the conference is to improve your experience of volunteering within Badminton. We want to arm our volunteers with the appropriate tools, knowledge and support to play a key role locally in increasing the number of people playing badminton.

Workshop choices:

Workshop 1: The power of social media
One of the most important elements of running a successful session/club/county/league is communication. This workshop explores the pros and cons of various social media tools, how you can use them to aid communication and the pitfalls to consider.

Workshop 2: Looking after your volunteers, and attracting more
How well does your club/county/league look after one of its most vital assets? A practical workshop designed to help clubs and organisations recruit, retain and realise the potential of volunteers. Understand what inspires people of different ages, genders and backgrounds to give their time. Discover practical tips to apply locally.

Workshop 3: Increasing female participation
The workshop provides a range of strategies for increasing female participation through topics such as promoting active participation; making sessions and facilities safe and female friendly; increasing media coverage and visibility and promoting gender equity on boards.

Workshop 4: Attracting young volunteers
Young volunteers can be an extremely useful asset and equally an invaluable experience to them. This workshop explores ways that you can utilise young volunteers locally in a safe way for mutual benefit.

Workshop 5: Managing Conflict
Difficult conversations are a significant part of managing people and performance but we rarely receive training on what to say and how to manage the inevitable emotional fall out. This workshop will provide practical guidance and offer a model of communication that helps to maintain flow and focus.
