Do I have to attend every week?

NSB offers an alternative to the traditional badminton club model. By removing the annual fee and running sessions on a pay and play basis, you don’t have commit to attending every week. Instead you can access badminton at a time and place that is convenient for you. However, we hope that the great experience and value for money will leave you wanting more…

Do I need to be good at Badminton?

No Strings Badminton is designed to be an inclusive programme with all ages and abilities welcome. We understand that when sessions become competitive it can be very off putting for beginners or participants that have not played badminton in a while. Therefore, the ethos of the session is centred around fun and not competition and the coordinator will do what they can to ensure players are evenly matched.

What else do I need to know?

Bring along your own racket if you have one, if not don’t worry as you might be able to borrow one from your NSB venue. Wear comfortable kit and trainers. You’ll be working up a sweat, so don’t forget to bring a water bottle too!

How Do I Set Up a No Strings Badminton Session?

Whether you are a coach, leisure centre or a keen volunteer, anyone can set up a No Strings Badminton session!

You need to complete our online programme training form to access the No Strings Co-ordinator Training then register your new No Strings session here and we will promote it via our Activity Finder.

No Strings Badminton (NSB) is a national participation programme offering low-cost, fun ‘pay and play sessions’ at a venue near you. Providing participants with a friendly and welcoming environment to play badminton, socialise and keep fit on their terms, NSB is fully inclusive and open to adult players of any age or ability.

Essentials

Essentials is a programme of 8 sessions designed to teach you all the badminton basics at a relaxed pace in a fun and friendly setting by a Badminton England endorsed coach.

Who are Essential courses aimed at?

The course is aimed at beginners and those who are new to the sport and would like to develop their skills to improve their game in either a No Strings sessions or appropriate club session.

What can I expect from an Essentials badminton session?

The 6-8-week course is delivered by a Badminton England endorsed coach who will cover all the essential skills required to play the game including, grips, movement, serving, backhand and forehand play. Your Essentials coach will focus on building your confidence throughout the course through fun and engaging sessions.

How much does it cost to attend an Essentials course?

Essentials courses usually cost about £40 but this can vary depending on location and the number of weeks the course is running for.

How Do I Become an Essentials Endorsed Coach?

In order to deliver an Essentials course, you must hold a Level 2 coaching qualification.

Level 2 coaches can complete our online programme training form to access the Essentials Programme Training to become an Essentials Endorsed Coach then register your Essentials course here and we will promote it via our Activity Finder.

Do I need to have played badminton before?

Adult clubs across the country cater for players of all ages and abilities, so you do not need to have played before. Clubs are focused on providing a fun, enjoyable and social environment for anyone that wants to pick up a racket and play. Some clubs have requirements for the standard of play so please contact your local club to find out if they are suitable for you.

How do I know if a club is right for me?

We would suggest you contact the club using the details provided on our Club Finder before you attend. Below are some of the questions you might like to ask to ensure the club is right for you.

What ability levels does the club cater for?
What days & times does the club play at and are certain sessions more suitable for different abilities?
Does the club offer coaching opportunities?
Does the club play in local leagues?
How much is it to attend a session?

What can I expect?

In an adult club session, you can expect a welcoming and enjoyable experience. You will be able to learn a new skill, meet new people, boost your physical fitness and mental well-being and a number of clubs also offer competitive opportunities such as league matches.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

Most adult clubs will require you to take you own racket – if you do not have one, please enquire with the club before you attend. We would also suggest you wear non-marking shoes (white soled) and take a drink.

Adult Coaching

Coaching is a great way to develop your badminton skills and improve your game. A number of clubs across the country offer coaching within their sessions or, if you are looking for something more specific, you could arrange a one-to-one session with a qualified coach.
