Statement: Badminton England proud to comply with new Code for Sports Governance

Badminton England are proud and honoured to be named amongst the first sporting national governing bodies in England to comply with Sport England’s new Code for Sports Governance.

As one of over 550 organisations that will be assessed, it is another significant milestone for Badminton England in a year that has seen the nation’s most played racket sport show real resilience, on and off court, amidst a challenging funding landscape.

Launched in October 2016 and dubbed ‘the most advanced sports governance reform implemented anywhere in the world’, the new UK Sports Governance code will be mandatory for all sports bodies.

It applies to any organisation seeking public funding from Sport England or UK Sport and demands the highest standards in organisation governance including increased diversity in decision making, inclusiveness in engagement, accountability, financial integrity and greater transparency.

Adrian Christy, CEO of Badminton England said: “I am delighted that Badminton England has evidenced its compliance with the Code for Sports Governance and that we can demonstrate that we are a fit for purpose National Governing Body.

In recent years, Badminton England has taken huge strides forward in restructuring and modernising its governance and operations.

It also fully respects the considerable investments it receives, whether that be public funds, commercial revenue or membership income.

Consequently we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised by complying with the significant requirements of the Code”.
