See the Nations best in action

The English National Badminton Championships will return to Winchester for a second successive year on 1-2 February 2020 and tickets are now on sale.

After a successful 2019 tournament, the 55th edition is intended to reinvigorate the Championships and firmly re-establish it as a ‘must win, must see’ event for players and fans alike.

Supported by presenting partner Hampshire Badminton Association for 2020, the event, being held at Westgate Badminton Centre, will be the showpiece finale of a brand new ‘Road to the Nationals’.

With a new qualification process linked to the Gold Tournament Circuit, and the re-introduction of prize money, it is hoped the Nationals will regain some of its previous status that it so richly deserves.

The first of these gold senior tournaments was held in Milton Keynes earlier this month which confirmed the first automatic qualifiers - Ollie Baczala (MS), Estelle Van Leeuwen (WS), Baczala/ Rob Golding (MD), Asmita Chaudhari/Annie Lado (WD) and Ethan Van Leeuwen/Lado (XD).

The Nationals will operate a 12-draw format in all disciplines with the top four players/pairs seeded and progressing straight through to the last eight.

Richard Peters, Development Manager for Hampshire Badminton, said: "Hampshire Badminton is delighted to be welcoming everyone back to Winchester in February 2020 for what we hope will be another action-packed and thrilling weekend of badminton.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have been invited to stage the English Nationals for a second time.”

Adrian Christy, CEO of Badminton England, said: “We are delighted to once again be partnering with Hampshire Badminton Association and Westgate Badminton Centre. The team did a great job for the 2019 Championships and we were keen to enable them to build on that success.

“The ‘Road to the Nationals’ is already proving an exciting talking point as we see players beginning to compete for qualification places and we look forward to some of our young talent going head to head with some of our established players.

“I love the National Championships and cannot wait to welcome fans again to more live badminton”.
