Entry for the 2019 English Nationals opens tomorrow and Badminton England is announcing some notable changes to the format when the Championships return to the traditional February slot in the tournament calendar.
In line with Badminton England’s commitment to tour the Nationals around the country, bringing more counties much closer to the delivery of the event, the 2019 Championships will be staged in Winchester, hosted by Hampshire Badminton Association.
In order to accommodate the venue and event delivery logistics, the Championships will feature a slimline entry (16 in singles; 12 in doubles) played out across two days of match play.
All first round, quarter finals and Mens and Ladies doubles semi final matches will take place on Saturday 2 February across 4 courts with the remaining semi finals and all finals featuring on Sunday 3 February on 2 courts.
The shortened two-day format (a switch from the familiar three day Nationals weekend), recognises the costs of staging the Championships and is something Badminton England is trialling in 2019.
Tickets will go on sale via Hampshire Badminton Association in the coming weeks.
