New England Senior players Sophie Brown and Emily Westwood

Sophie Brown & Emily Westwood have recently finished their Junior careers and made the move into Senior badminton in a recent reshuffle of the Senior programme which has also seen the addition of Gary Fox and Panuga Riou.

Both Sophie and Emily have developed considerably over the last 12 months as they’ve prepared their techniques, tactical awareness, physical capabilities, mental strength and lifestyles for the challenges that lie ahead in the Senior ranks of English and European badminton.

Sophie Brown specialises in the doubles events with Women's Doubles her priority. She studies and trains at Leeds Met University High Performance Centre with James Vincent. Sophie has developed through the Yorkshire Junior Badminton system and developed into one of the strongest Junior Doubles players in Europe. Her strength is her defence and mid court play linked to her patience and consistency, and her competitors know that they are going to have to play well and include a lot of winners. In the Women’s Doubles Sophie has been partnering Holly Smith (Durham) and Rhys Walker (Warwickshire) in the Mixed Doubles. Last season Sophie was ranked in the top 10 Women’s Doubles players on the Junior World Ranking.

Emily Westwood has specialised in Singles but also plays a strong game of Mixed Doubles. She has been a full-time player for a year after finishing her ‘A’ Levels at School. For the last 12 months she has trained at Wimbledon with Stuart Wardell and has recently moved to Bath High Performance Centre to train with Peter Bush. Emily is a strong shot player and good tactically with fluent movement and is currently working hard to develop more speed and power into her game which could make her a dangerous player in the Senior tournaments. Emily has also been competing in Mixed Doubles with Sam Dobson (Surrey).

During the last two seasons of their Junior careers they have represented England at Championship Events and numerous other tournaments, below is a list of a few of their achievements:
