Move online makes aspirational Premier Club status more accessible

BADMINTON England is pleased to announce that the accreditation process for the aspirational ‘Premier Club’ Clubmark status is to be moved online with immediate effect, making it easier, quicker and more accessible for clubs to engage in.

Following a comprehensive review of the paper based system, and taking on board feedback from across the badminton community, switching to an online platform with new, focused criteria for Clubmark is a significant and timely step forward for BADMINTON England.

Clubmark lays out set benchmarking criteria and quality assurance standards for badminton clubs across the country to meet in order to be awarded the ‘Premier Club’ kitemark.

In the wide network of badminton clubs across England, there are now over 230 badminton clubs that boast full ‘Premier Club’ status having shown the necessary processes and standards to meet the Clubmark criteria.

It is anticipated that the switch to the online platform will inspire further clubs to make the required step up in their own processes and seek Premier Club status over the coming seasons.

The online platform will provide all services relating to registration and accreditation of the Clubmark process, cutting down the reliance on paperwork communication, manual collation of required documentation and complex red tape that clubs advised was a barrier to working with the process.

For clubs already awarded Premier Club status, annual re-accreditation can also be conducted online by the club main contact, eliminating the need for annual health checks*.

Clubs can also enjoy more ownership and control within the process with BADMINTON England placing a big emphasis on self certification. Each club will be responsible for maintaining their accreditation files and ensuring that the benchmarking standards are kept up to date and relevant.

Going forward

A spokesperson for BADMINTON England said “Premier Club status continues to be an award that clubs right across England are aspiring to achieve.

“We believe the move to place the accreditation process online will offer a much more efficient process that matches the needs and wants of modern day sports clubs looking to attract new members.

“Our aim is to catch the attention of more clubs and further increase the number of Premier Clubs across the country in a sustainable, responsive way that drives the sport at club level forward”.

*External verifications will continue to be undertaken by Sport England’s Clubmark consultants, KKP; this process and prior notification of a visit remains unchanged.

BADMINTON England Workforce Officers in each region will also undertake periodic visits during the year, as an extension to the Clubmark licence verification process and these visits will be scheduled to take place during club sessions where possible.
