BADMINTON England today announced that a decision has been made requesting the Badminton World Federation (BWF) withdraws sanction of the London Grand Prix with immediate effect and for the event to be removed from the International Calendar.
This incredibly difficult decision was taken recently by the National Governing Body’s Board of Directors and it is as a direct consequence of the challenging financial environment that British sport, and specifically BADMINTON England has to operate within.
The London Grand Prix is unable to attract any Government investment to cover or even subsidise the significant costs of staging the event.
Having considered the demands on their own resources against a number of other high priority investments that have to be made, BADMINTON England has reluctantly decided that delivering the event here on in will prove to be financially unviable and place other key projects at risk.
