Hemming & Moore win qualification match to earn first round tie with Adcocks!

Callum Hemming and Jenny Moore sailed through their Mixed Doubles qualification match vs their Russian opponents 21-10 21-18.

These pairs had never met before, but the Russians Anastasiia SEMENOVA/Vladimir NIKULOV were ranked slightly higher before today.

Their reward for this win is an all-English clash with number two-seeded pair Chris and Gabby Adcock on Wednesday morning.

They have never met in international competition, but of course have competed against each other many times at Badminton England HQ in Milton Keynes.

Surprisingly our English 6th seeded XD pairing Ben Lane and Jess Pugh lost to the Danish unseeded pair Niclas NOHR/Sara THYGESEN of Denmark in two sets.

The third highest English Mixed Doubles pairing were ranked sixth, but lost 21-14 21-16 to the Danes they had never played before.

The third English XD pairing in action today; Greg Mairs/Victoria Williams lost the first set to LU Ching Yao/LEE Chia Hsin but came back superbly to win in the third, 10-21 21-16 21-19.

The two pairs had never previously met, but the Chinese Taipei pair had a much higher World Ranking than the relatively new pair of Mairs & Williams.

That concluded the English involvement at the YONEX Dutch Open today.
Tomorrow we have that eagerly anticipated English XD match from 9.40am!
