Badminton England has today announced that, after four years as Great Britain and England Head Coach, Jakob Hoi has taken the decision to return to Denmark, with effect from December 2016.
Hoi, who joined Badminton England from his position as Germany Head Coach in 2012, has been a huge influence in the development of the GB Badminton Programme over his four year tenure at the National Badminton Centre and leaves on a high having overseen a bronze medal at Rio 2016 – Great Britain’s first Olympic medal for 12 years.
Hoi will now return to his native Denmark and take on the role of the role National Coach with Badminton Denmark.
Speaking on Hoi’s decision, Jon Austin, GB Badminton Performance Director said: “Jakob has been at the heart of what has been achieved in recent years culminating in our successes in Rio.
“Whilst we are disappointed that Jakob is leaving Badminton England, he leaves the organisation with our thanks and gratitude for his drive, passion and determination to push the players, coaches and support staff to be the best they can be.”
Hoi will leave his role in December 2016 and the search for a new Head Coach will begin immediately.
“We now have the aim of recruiting a coach who can maximise our opportunities in Tokyo and continue to build the talent system that will produce our future champions.” Austin added.
