England paired with Belgium again in sporting group stages

England have been drawn to face Belgium again in the group stages of a sporting events – this time, as they seek qualification for the European Mixed Team Badminton Championships in February, 2019.

And after the fun and games on a football pitch at the World Cup this summer, England, as 5-time champions and 14-time finalists, will be favourites to qualify to for the bi-annual Championships from a Group 1 which also features Italy and Hungary.

The English were one of seven nations seeded for today’s draw where 30 nations were paired into seven groups.  Only Denmark, the reigning European Mixed Team Badminton champs, received automatic qualification into the Championship and thus spared a round of qualifiers.

The Belgians hosted the Championships three years ago but all three of England’s opponents have not previously reached the knock out stages of the competition in its 46 year history.

The qualifying rounds will take place on 6-9 December 2018 simultaneously at 5-6 different venues in different countries across Europe.

The seven group winners will join Denmark in the Championships, now set for 13-17 February 2019.
