Badminton tops list of sports that make you happy

There is an old adage that says money can’t buy happiness.
But it can book you an hour swinging a racket on a badminton court -  and badminton tops a sports index when it comes to making you happy!

Yes, an independent study has unveiled badminton as THE go to mainstream sport when it comes to offering you a full and content life that puts a smile on your face.

A SMG YouGov survey looking at the feel good factor of participants in different sport and leisure activities found that badminton trumped over 40 other opportunities when it comes to offering a happy life.

It joined Netball on top step of the happiness podium and left the so called wellbeing activities of golf, cycling, walking, joga and pilates sweating.

Badminton, for example, enjoy an ‘complete happiness’ rating of 13%, compared to the 8% scores registered by tennis and cycling. Golf, Pilates and running each recorded 9%

But why? Why is a badminton court the happy place for over 1 million people each month acoss England?

Well all the running, jumping, lunging, twisting and stretching that comes with badminton fills your body with a higher than average level of endorphins – the brain’s feel good neurotransmitters that enhance your sense of wellbeing and happiness.

They boost your mood, raise your self esteem, reduce stress and quash anxiety They are the buzz you feel when playing and what give you the glow when you come off court.



In fact, over 35% of people playing badminton regularly each month surveyed said having badminton to look forward to each week made their life complete, scoring the sport 9-10 out 10 for total satisfaction – a trailblazing percentage that was only matched by netball.
