Badminton Europe has been working hard to develop a new project which strives towards gender equity in our sport. The new Gender Equity Ambassadors project aims to actively promote Gender Equity across the continent, with the help of a Team of Ambassadors.
The roles of the Ambassadors will be to:
- Be a role model who is actively involved in badminton activities
- Engage Member Associations and foster a Gender Equity mindset to all badminton stakeholders
- Assist Badminton Europe in increasing female participation in badminton across Europe
The project recruited nine Gender Equity Ambassadors from eight different countries who will work on various projects, initiatives and activities over the next two years.
The nine new Ambassadors include English Para-Badminton player and triple World Champion, Rachel Choong, and Badminton England Relationship Manager, Holly Robson.
The first task for each Ambassador was to plan and deliver an activity in their home country and the planned activity for England is a webinar entitled ‘Gender Equity in Badminton’.
The webinar will feature both Ambassadors as the webinar is being organised by Holly and Rachel will feature as guest speaker and panellist.
The webinar, running on Monday 30th November, will provide information on what ‘gender equity’ is, the goals of the Gender Equity Ambassadors project and some key national statistics on women in badminton. The webinar will also highlight some of the barriers that women face when looking to become involved in badminton and put forward some ideas on how these barriers can be reduced in order to maximise female participation and engagement.
In addition to the information and ideas provided, the webinar will also showcase five speakers from across the country, who are actively involved in a variety of badminton-related roles. These speakers will share information on their roles and take part in a panel style discussion on gender equity.
