Adcocks set to face rising Chinese stars in World Superseries Finals

Chris and Gabby Adcock continue their Dubai World Superseries Finals campaign today when they take on Chinese duo Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen.

The Adcocks know all about their opponents, having faced them twice in 2016 already – but their search for a first victory against the duo goes on.

The Chinese aces have enjoyed a fine season and have already won three tournaments together, the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters, YONEX Open Chinese Taipei and YONEX Open Japan.

But the Adcocks enter the match in good form themselves having reached the semi-finals of the Bitburger Badminton Open and the YONEX Denmark Open in recent weeks.

Matches between the two doubles pairings have always been close, and their first encounter, at the 2014 Bitburger Open, was a nervy classic as the Adcocks won the first game 21-14, before Zheng and Chen surged back to win the final two 21-14, 21-18.

They did not meet again until June this year at the XIAMENAIR Australian Open, where Zheng and Chen clinched a 21-16, 21-18 victory, and just last month the Adcocks were unlucky again as they lost 21-16, 23-21 at the Bitburger Open.

Zheng and Chen were ranked outside the top 50 at the beginning of the year but their rapid rise this season means we can expect many more classics with the Adcocks – currently ranked eighth, and their next meeting is expected to be the best yet.

The match starts at 3pm British time. Follow the latest scores from Dubai here
