England’s triple world champion Rachel Choong is in the running to be named BWF’s Female Para-Badminton Player of the Year following the release of the worldwide shortlist.
Choong, who successfully defended her three world titles last month in South Korea to complete a ‘double triple’ in SS6 short stature classification, is one of only two Europeans on the eight player list.
She will contend the Female title alongside nominees Yuma Yamazaki (Japan), Sujirat Pookkham (Thailand) and Amnouy Wetwithan (Thailand).
Choong has had enjoyed a remarkable five years since first becoming world champion in 2013, winning eight world titles from nine events she has contested.
She has also dominated the European circuit taking four gold at the European Championships and been the big draw at international world tour tournaments.
However her hopes of becoming a Team GB Paralympian took a blow when it was announced her disciplines would not form part of the schedule for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic debut.
The award winners will be revealed at the end of year award taking place in Dubai on Monday 11 December.
