Badminton England sends its sincere condolences to the family of the great Tom Bacher who sadly passed away on 4 October 2017.
Denmark-born, Tom was a true champion of badminton in every sense.
In 1970, Tom became an All England Champion, when unseeded, he and partner Poul Petersen won the Men’s Doubles title.
In 1979, Tom was elected to the Council of the World Governing Body, serving our sport with great distinction for 24 years, 17 of them as a Vice President.
During this time, he was a major contributor to the formation of the World Grand Prix circuit - the fore runner to today’s World Superseries.
Tom was elected President of Badminton Europe in 2004, a role he held until 2010. In that time, he was a driving force in turning the focus for our Continental Confederation towards a modern, business-like approach to the game.
As a player, technical official and administrator, Tom served our sport with great distinction and he will be missed by all his friends within English badminton.
