England retain McCoig Trophy

England Team McCoig Trophy Scotland 2016 FTU.jpg

Another hard fought battle saw the England Masters team beat Scotland 21-5 in this year's McCoig Trophy, held in Glasgow on Friday.

England looked strong throughout, winning five and drawing one of the age group events. They also didn't drop a game in the Over 50’s, 60’s or 65’s categories.

There were some tough games with several pairs/players losing the first end only to battle back to win in three.

There were several 'first cap' appearances for England - these were:

Trevor Darlington
Rakesh Gupta
Dave Gribble
Martin Francis
Malcolm Grayson
Anne Bridge
Penny Shears
Simon Gilhooly

It was great to see both countries entering into the competitive but good spirited nature of the event.

The England team would like to thank Badminton Scotland for being excellent hosts and they look forward to retaining the trophy again next year in England.

The age group results are as below:

Over 40’s: England 3 – 2 Scotland
Over 45’s: England 4 – 1 Scotland
Over 50’s: England 4 – 0 Scotland
Over 55’s: England 2 – 2 Scotland
Over 60’s: England 4 – 0 Scotland
Over 65’s: England 4 – 0 Scotland
