English pairs bowed out at the quarter-final stages of the Mexico City Grand Prix on Friday as the curtain was brought down on 2015 for our elite players.
Unseeded Heather Olver and Lauren Smith, the English national women's doubles champions, ran Malaysia's top seeds Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon extremely close in their last eight tussle.
Having taken the opener 21-17, the Malaysian duo fought back to win the next two 21-11, 21-17.
Meanwhile, Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, fourth seeds in Mexico's capital, saved two match points to unseeded Thai duo Bodin Issara and Nipitphon Puangpuapech before bowing out 21-15, 23-21.
England's number one pairing found themselves a game and 16-12 down in the second before rallying back to hold a 21-20 lead.
But the Thai pair held their nerve to advance to Saturday's semi-finals by taking the last three points.
