Chris and Gabby Adcock’s reward for their Commonwealth Games mixed doubles gold medal is a number four seeding at the Li-Ning BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, starting on 25 August.
And there is also a men’s doubles seeding for Adcock and Andy Ellis, who will be number 14 behind Indonesia’s top seeds and holders Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan, the 2014 Yonex All England Championships winners.
The Adcocks moved up a place from their expected number five spot in the mixed doubles following the withdrawal of Indonesia’s defending champions nd All England winners Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir. He has not recovered from an ankle problem.
The England pair are seeded behind the two Chinese pairs of Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei and Xu Chen and Ma Jin and Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen.
Olympic champions Zhang and Zhao are the pair who defeated Adcock and Scotland’s Imogen Bankier in the 2011 world final at Wembley Arena.
Rajiv Ouseph, who just missed out on bronze in Glasgow, is not among the men’s singles seeds where three times All England champion Lee Chong Wei is top seed as he bids for an elusive first world title.
England are sending an 11-strong squad to the Championships with Fontaine Chapman joining the players who took team silver at Glasgow 2014 and collected gold through the Adcocks, silver through Chris Langridge & Heather Olver, and bronze through Gabby Adcock and Lauren Smith and Chris Langridge and Peter Mills.
The England squad for the World Championships is:
Men’s singles: Rajiv Ouseph
Women’s singles: Sarah Walker, Fontaine Chapman
Men’s doubles: Chris Adcock & Andy Ellis, Chris Langridge & Peter Mills
Women’s doubles: Gabby Adcock & Lauren Smith, Heather Olver & Kate Robertshaw
