18.08.16: How Twitter reacted to badminton bronze for Team GB pair

430 feature Langridge Ellis Rio

Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge are Olympic bronze medallists and their 21-18 19-21 21-10 victory over China’s Chai Biao and Hong Wei sent Twitter into meltdown.

Ellis and Langridge have become just the third Brits to win Olympic medals in the badminton and the first ever in the men’s doubles.

The last people to secure a podium place for Britain at an Olympic Games were Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson in Athens 12 years ago, and both have had their say on the historic win.

Ellis and Langridge went into the competition 22nd in the world but showed they can beat the best men’s doubles pairings on the planet by defeating the number three, five and eight duos during Rio 2016.

It is a feat that means a lot to all of their Team GB badminton colleagues.

The historic victory has been celebrated throughout British badminton and is likely to leave a lasting legacy in the sport.

And it is fair to say Mrs Langridge is a happy woman right now!

Here at Badminton England we are pretty ecstatic too.

And if Ellis and Langridge’s incredible performances have made you want to pick up a racket, then get yourself down to your local club.
