National Championships Lane Vendy 2023 1200

January 19, 2024

Defending open doubles champions Ben Lane and Sean Vendy are among the confirmed entries for the English National Badminton Championships 2024.

Top seeds Lane and Vendy will be looking to defend their crown for a second time at the University of Nottingham’s David Ross Sports Village.

Also returning are women’s singles champion Kirby Ngan and mixed doubles title holders Greg and Jenny Mairs with the Championships taking place on 3 and 4 February.

There will be a new name on the open singles trophy after three-time winner Johnnie Torjussen announced his retirement at the end of last year.

However, Olympian and 2018 champion Toby Penty is included in the entries, which are headlined by No. 1 seed Harry Huang and last year’s losing finalist Nadeem Dalvi.

Avon’s Ngan is included in the top four women’s singles seeds a year after pulling off a shock win as an unseeded player.

She is joined in the women’s singles entries by the player she beat in the final, Freya Patel-Redfearn, and rising stars Leona Lee and Tashvi Parab.

The Mairs won their first mixed doubles title in 2023 and they will return to Nottingham as the top seeds, with two-time champion Callum Hemming joining up with Estelle Van Leeuwen.

In the women’s doubles, Chloe Birch has the chance to win her fourth title with a third different partner.

Birch won her first two titles with Lauren Smith in 2019 and 2020 before joining forces with Jenny Wallwork last year to reclaim the title.

This year, she has partnered with Van Leeuwen with Abbygael Harris and Annie Lado gunning for revenge after losing in the final last year.

In total, there will be 24 entrants in the singles and 16 in doubles.

Fans can watch the best that England has to offer in person with tickets starting at £3 for children and £6 for adults.

The Championships are a fantastic chance for badminton spectators to feast upon at least seven hours of high-standard court action.

Selected courts will also be streamed on Badminton England’s YouTube channel across both days.

Play starts at 9am each day and match results can be followed through Tournament Planner and Live Score on all courts throughout the weekend.

Badminton England have both promotional and workforce opportunities through Nottingham County Badminton Association.
