Why doesn't Badminton England run an annual season January to December?

Badminton England does not run an annual season from January to December due to:

  • School exam dates vary internationally: For England the disruption for juniors during exam periods is May and Summer holidays. This reduces activity from players, availability of organisers and venues (school based) during the summer period so the season would not be continuous.
  • It would create a busy period of domestic and international tournaments at the end of the season in November and December which is also a busy time of year for families.
  • It would also affect the senior competition season for players.
  • Many clubs do not operate throughout the Summer period (school halls not always available to clubs at this time).

Badminton England age groups are still determined by the December date so that players continue to compete in the same peer group both domestically and internationally.
