Premier Club Criteria
The Premier Club goal includes fulfilling the following criteria:
The club must have an ‘open/non-discriminatory’ constitution, which should include:
- Equity policy
- Safeguarding & Protecting Young People policy
- Code of conducts for players, coaches, volunteers, officials and parents
- Set of rules for children & young people
The club must be affiliated to Badminton England and thereby will have the appropriate Public Liability Insurance in place.
All responsible coaches must be suitably qualified, registered and insured.
4) Risk and Safety: TEMPLATE 2 (Risk Assessment form)
The club must have systems in place to ensure that safe venues and equipment are used for all coaching, competition and club sessions/activities run at its ‘home’ venue(s)
5) Welfare: TEMPLATE 3 (Welfare Officer role description)
The club must have a nominated Welfare Officer with clear roles and responsibilities (as defined by Badminton England’s Safeguarding and Protecting Young People policy) and DBS cleared and checked by Badminton England within the last 3 years.
Two committee members, one of whom must be the Welfare Officer, and a coach, must have attended a recognised basic awareness child protection training course within the last three years.
Acceptable courses are UK Coaching Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop (SPC1 & 2) or a safeguarding course delivered directly by your Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB). LSCB courses will usually last between 4 and 6 hours duration.
Safeguarding and Protecting Children online refresher course is now acceptable providing you have attended the workshop above within the past three years. Once another three years has passed a direct delivered workshop must again be attended. Please click here for further information.
7) First Aid: TEMPLATE 4 (Access to First Aid statement)
The club must ensure that access is provided to first aid at all coaching, competition and club sessions, and must provide a statement on its first aid provision.
8) Emergency Guidelines: TEMPLATE 5 (Guidelines for dealing with an incident/accident) and TEMPLATE 6 (Incident/Accident report form)
The club must have emergency procedures for dealing with serious injuries/accidents, including ensuring contact through telephone/radio is available to call the emergency services.
Contact details of parents/carers and emergency/alternative contacts must be recorded and be ‘reasonably accessible’ to the relevant coach/session organiser.
The club must also take reasonable steps to obtain information on any medical conditions of its children and young people. Such information should (on a ‘need to know’ basis) be made available to club coaching personnel and others working with those young people.
