What's the criteria?

The 2017 National Badminton Awards celebrate and honour the amazing work carried out every day by individuals and organisations across England.

We have six award categories and nominations are now closed. 

What's the criteria and process?

  •  The judging panel is consists of Badminton England Board members, staff and individuals with specific knowledge or experience in the award categories.
  • Nominations should be completed using the online application form found here.
  • Nominations can be made by any person. However, self nominations will not be considered for individual awards. Due to the nature of the award, counties are able to nominate themselves for  County Badminton Association (CBA) of the Year, and similarly clubs for the Club of the Year award.
  • All individuals/organisations nominated must reside in England.
  • Nominations from previous nominees will be accepted.
  • Nominators are asked to explain why the nominee should win the title.

Nomination Criteria

Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by Yonex)

Nominations are invited for volunteers who have made a significant contribution to badminton.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Volunteers to be aged 14 years or above.
  • Achievements and contribution to badminton during 2016.
  • Evidence of commitment to badminton throughout their time volunteering.
  • Evidence of impact made to badminton e.g. include how long they have been involved; who has benefited and how they have benefited.
  • Goals and ambitions for the next year e.g. courses, new roles etc.

Coach of the Year (sponsored by Bluegreen Design Consultants)

Nominations are invited for coaches who have excelled in badminton coaching over the past 12 months, making a significant contribution to participation and/or performance.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Evidence and impact in their badminton club, organisation and/or community e.g. include how long they have been involved, who has benefited and how they benefited.
  • Evidence of work in a specific environment e.g. schools, disability groups, professional clubs that has encouraged the development of participation and/or performance within badminton.
  • Evidence of commitment to their personal development e.g. training attended in last 12 months, CPD points gained.
  • Key achievements in 2016 in badminton,  e.g. coaching hours, performance coaching, mentoring and educating other coaches, coaching people with disabilities.

Club of the Year (sponsored by Perkins Slade)

Nominations are invited for clubs that have developed an environment where players and volunteers enjoy and succeed in badminton. Self nominations are welcomed.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Key achievements within the club in 2016.
  • Evidence of increased membership and participation in badminton through a range of initiatives widening access to disadvantaged groups and developing partnerships with the local community.
  • Evidence of commitment to volunteer recruitment and achieved Premier Club status.

County Badminton Association (CBA) of the Year (sponsored by Creme Conferences)

Nominations are invited for County Badminton Associations (CBA) that has developed an environment where players and volunteers enjoy and have had the opportunity to represent their county. Self nominations are accepted.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Provide playing opportunities e.g. local and Badminton England tournaments, county training.
  • Work to improve opportunities to play badminton across a wide spectrum, e.g., schools, clubs, recreational participation, performance of county teams/players
  • Establish excellent relationships and communication with players, parents, volunteers and partners e.g. performance centres, Badminton England, Community Badminton Networks, schools and badminton facilities.
  • Key achievements in 2016.

Player of the Year (sponsored by Yonex)

Nominations are invited for participants who have excelled in badminton over the past 12 months, making significant developments to their performance within their club/organisation.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Key achievements in 2016 e.g. level of competitions, county/regional/national or international recognition.
  • Evidence of impact made to their club, organisation, and community through their performance e.g. being a role model for others.

Young Player of the Year (sponsored by Yonex)

Nominations are invited for participants who have excelled in badminton over the past 12 months, making significant developments to their performance within their club/organisation.

Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Key achievements in 2016 e.g. level of competitions, county/regional/national or international recognition.
  • Evidence of impact made to their club, organisation and performance e.g. being a role model for others.
  • Evidence of their development and commitment in the past year in order to move to the next level.

Nominations for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year are made by the Badminton England coaching team.
