Overall aims & focus:

To make coaches aware how it feels to be a beginner, to consider ways to provide an environment to support this and to provide practical ideas and key areas upon which to focus activity.

Target audience:

Level 1 coaches (aiming towards Level 2) & Level 2 coaches

Learning Outcomes:

- Create a supportive learning environment
- Provide a range of feeding opportunities
- Use and adapt activities to develop FUNdamental movement skills
- Practically facilitate use of rackets and modified equipment in a way that encourages grip changes

Key content linked to outcomes:

  • Create a supportive learning environment

- FUN!
- Praise process and effort ahead of outcome
- Encourage sharing of ideas between participants
- Precise, specific praise linked to key C.P.s
- Use players to demonstrate, create ideas and UNLOCK levels

  • Provide a range of feeding opportunities

- Varied equipment.
- Static/suspended shuttles.
- Rolling, bobbling bouncing. Above and below eye line.
- Flat hand/racket feeds – looping hand/racket feeds

  • Use and adapt activities to develop FUNdamental movement skills

- Explore Create Development FUNS cards.
- Modify to a badminton context
- Chasse, lunging, jumping, and throwing

  • Practically facilitate use of rackets and modified equipment in a way that encourages grip changes

- Balancing, passing, tipping shuttles on/between rackets
- Races, fun game activities.
- Keepy Uppy – unlock then create own levels

Attendance Only
