Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith fell to fourth seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping in the last 16 of the YONEX SUNRISE India Open.

The pair were the final English competitors left standing in New Delhi, but ultimately came up short against the formidable Chinese duo.

Ellis and Smith fought their way past Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat 21-19 21-18 to book a place in the last 16 but were unable to go any further after losing 21-15 21-3 to Feng and Huang.

Ellis and Smith led 10-9 in the first game before Feng and Huang established a healthy lead to clinch the game, before closing out victory in the second.

Elsewhere, Ben Lane and Sean Vendy exited the men’s doubles at the round of 32 stage after a 21-11 21-16 loss to Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han.

The Chinese Taipei pair powered through the first game thanks to eight consecutive points but faced a fierce comeback from Lane and Vendy in the second, as the English duo fought back from 15-8 down to lead 16-15.

But the pair were unable to hold onto their lead and ultimately fell 21-16 in the second game.
