Jenny and Greg Mairs were narrowly edged out in the first round of the YONEX German Open after falling to Malaysia’s Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai.
The mixed doubles partners fought hard in a tight battle in Germany, pushing the Malaysian pair to a 24-22 20-22 21-19 in a one hour and five minutes of play.
The opening game set the precedent for what was to be a close clash, with Tan and Lai taking the first before the English pair forced a third game.
In the deciding set, the Mairs’ eventually fell to a narrow loss and bowed out of the competition.
