A ten-strong England squad will be heading to Vilnius for the European U17 Championships, with team and individual medals up for grabs across the coming two weeks.

The England squad will first contend the Team Championships from the 4-8 August, before individual singles and doubles action takes place from 8-12 August in the Lithuanian capital.

England’s team competition will start on Friday, with an opening tie against Israel, before further group stage encounters against Ukraine and Italy.

Should the squad top their group, they will then progress to the elimination stage, where they will be joined by seven other group winners in the quarter-finals.

And following Team Championships action, there will be English representation in all five of the individual disciplines.

The squad have embarked on multiple training camps over the past few months and were among those competing at the YONEX All England Junior Badminton Championships.

“Some of our training has been about trying to get into a big competition mindset,” said coach Kat Hurrell.

“So things we can do to control games, control momentum, and generally try to be really good competitors on the court when we’re doing matchplay.

“Throughout the year we have some really specific themes that we work on in each camp and it’s been really good to see how the players have gone throughout the year.

“I’ve definitely seen a lot of progress and a lot of hard work going in away from the camps as well so that when we meet, we can really see the best of where they are.

“Our players are really ready with some good training under their belt, some competitive match play – so hopefully everything they need to go and do their best.”
