Tokyo medallists Daniel Bethell and Krysten Coombs have discovered their opponents after the draw for the para badminton at Paris 2024 was made.
Bethell, who won silver three years ago in the SL3 men’s singles category and is the number two seed this time around, has been drawn alongside Wojtek Czyz of New Zealand, Ukraine’s Oleksandr Chyrkov and Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara.
Coombs, meanwhile, has been given a tough draw as one of two Brits in the SH6 men’s singles. He faces number one seed and Tokyo silver medallist Chu Man-kai of Hong Kong, as well as Indonesia’s Subhan Subhan and Sivarajan Solaimalai of India.
In Japan, Coombs had been drawn in the same group as compatriot Jack Shephard, but they are in separate groups this time around. Shephard will face Brazil’s number two seed Vitor Tavares, as well as Lin Naili of China and home favourite Charles Noakes.
Meanwhile, Paralympic debutant Rachel Choong will look to live up to her seeding in the SH6 women’s singles, where she is ranked third. She has been drawn in a group with Poland’s Oliwia Szmigiel and Rubi Milagros Fernandez Vargas of Peru.
Choong and Shephard are also competing in the mixed doubles where they are the number one seeds. They will face the Indonesian pairing of Subhan and Rina Marlina, as well as Chinese duo Lin and Li Fengmei.
