Young Official Award

The Badminton Young Official Award (YOA) is aimed at young people aged 14-19 years. The Award is an introduction to officiating designed to equip the Young Official with the necessary skills and qualification that will allow them to officiate at badminton events.

The four hour course (two hours theory, two hours practical) is delivered by Endorsed Badminton England Tutors and covers the following content:

• Scoring/Umpiring
• The Laws of Badminton
• Tournament Regulations
• Service Judging
• Line Judging
• Match Control
• Court Management
• Health & Safety
• Public Relations
• Tournament Volunteering
• Working as a part of a Management Team

Upon completion of the course Young Officials will be offered the chance to be directly involved in supporting badminton competitions in order to gain the experience required to be certificated for the award. These include the National Schools Championships, Badminton England Circuit Events and a variety of other opportunities and events.

Resources & Cost

The YOA is delivered by trained Badminton England Tutors. Candidates will receive the following as part of the course fees:

• Access to a range of supporting resources both online and throughout the course
• Regulations for Tournaments
• The Badminton Referee Resource
• Plus on completion of the Award, YOA certification
