Multi-Skills for Badminton
Overall aims & focus:
To provide coaches with an overview of the general principles of multi-skills and how physical skills that can be developed in other sports can be transferred into badminton.
Candidates will also learn how to manipulate a session to develop these generic hitting, moving and throwing skills in an enjoyable environment.
Target audience:
Level 1 coaches & Level 2 coaches (or aspiring) working with younger players
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the general principles of multi-skills and why they are important
- Be able to transfer and develop multi-skills concepts in the badminton environment
Key content linked to outcomes:
- Understand the general principles of multi-skills and why they are important
- What are multi-skills?
- balance, coordination and/or agility, decision making, communication etc.
- Why are they important
- Identify top multi-skills for badminton
- Physical skills from; rugby, football, cricket and athletics.
- Look at the components of these sports and how we can transfer these into badminton.
- Be able to transfer and develop multi-skills concepts in the badminton environment
- Fun multi-skill games
- Generic
- Balance games
- Agility games
- Hand-eye coordination games.
- STEP model of adjusting Space, Task, Equipment and/or People.
- Transfer these generic skills learnt to badminton, how to introduce the;
- Badminton court – types of movement
- running, jumping, jumping to the side etc.
- Racket – practices for increasing hand eye, arm speed?
- Net height
