Improving your Movement Demonstration
Overall aims & focus:
To improve the technical accuracy of practical movement demonstrations, including the preparation, execution and recovery linked to playing shots in the fore court and the rear court.
Target audience:
Level 1 coaches (or aspiring)
Level 2 coaches with limited badminton playing experience
Any level coach wanting to refresh their technical skills
Learning outcomes:
- Identify the different types of movement on a badminton court
- Understand fundamental movement principles
- Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the forecourt
- Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the rear court
- Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the midcourt area

• Identify the different types of movement on a badminton court
- Running, walking, skipping, chasse, lunging, jumping
- Rhythm and efficiency
• Understand fundamental movement principles
- Agility (split step/stretch reflex - starting & stopping, changing direction, change of pace)
- Balance (static & dynamic, posture, core strength)
- Coordination (linking movements to hitting)
- Jumping & landing (preparation, execution, landing)
- Newton’s Laws of Motion
• Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the forecourt
- Running steps, chassé steps, cross-behind, lunging, jumping
• Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the rearcourt
- Arcing steps, cross-behind, chassé and jump-out, kick-through/jump and rotate, lunging, running steps, hop-pivot and jump and kick-through on round-the-head (BH corner)
• Identify & demonstrate common footwork patterns when moving to and recovering from the midcourt area
- Lunging (on racket and non-racket leg), chassé steps, pivot steps, cross-behind
