Greg and Jenny Mairs saw their VICTOR China Open campaign cut short by an irresistible force in Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

The mixed doubles duo got a late call-up to the Super 1000 event after the withdrawal of Denmark’s Mathias Thyrri and Amalie Magelund.

The draw was never likely to be kind and it threw up a first-ever meeting with the powerful world No.4 pairing.

Greg and Jenny stayed in touch in the early part of the first game but Puavaranukroh and Taerattanachai won five straight points after the break to take control and win it 21-14.

Despite an even start, the second game ended up being a one-sided affair and the Thai duo ran out 21-8 winners, wrapping up the match in 32 minutes.

That brings an end to English involvement in Changzhou with next week’s Super 500 VICTOR Hong Kong Open the next stop on the BWF World Tour for our shuttlers.
