Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith return to an intense Milton Keynes based training block until the New Year with silver from Lucknow, India.

The number one seeds made the final of the Ecogreen Syed Modi International Championships without dropping a set.

But were felled in Sunday’s final by the eighth seeds, Rodion Alimov and Alina Davletova of Russia, 21-18 21-16 in the two pairs’ first meeting.

Earlier in the week Smith also made the quarter-finals of the Women’s Doubles with partner Chloe Birch. Seeded South Korean pair Chang Ye Na and Kim Hye Rin defeated them at the last eight stage.

Birch was another English athlete competing in two disciplines. Wang Zhi Yi of China knocked Birch out of the Women’s Singles second round 21-8 18-21 21-11.

The fourth British act in India competed in the Men’s Doubles. Having won in 18 minutes in the first round, Ben Lane and Sean Vendy were eliminated in the second.

Chinese fifth seeds He Ji Ting and Tan Qiang prevailed 21-18 21-17.
