Badminton England is delighted to announce a pathway for the return of domestic competition. 

During a period of extraordinary change in our lives this year and navigating through Government guidelines to ensure tournaments operate in a Covid secure environment, we are excited to be able to announce the first steps towards a return to competition. 

The return to competition will be gradual and for the foreseeable future, they will operate differently to ensure the safety of all who take part and that they run in compliance with government guidance. 

We have all become used to evolving guidance with lockdown measures and Badminton England will adopt an agile approach to any future changes by continually monitoring the measures announced by Government to ensure they we are always compliant. 

Junior National Championships 

The competition season will begin in January 2021 with the staging of the 2020 Junior National Championships 

The original age groups will be the same but there will be smaller draws and players will only be able to play one age group per event. Further details and dates available shortly. 

Circuit Tournaments 

We are delighted to relaunch Circuit Tournaments from January 2021, for those tournament organisers who can host. 

Circuit tournaments will be limited to 30 players and officialswith players competing within an individual grouping of up to 6 players. 

Tournament Organiser can stage Singles, Doubles or Mixed Doubles tournaments. 

Other Tournaments 

With regards to the Senior County ChampionshipsInter County Tournament (ICT) and Masters Competitiondiscussions and considerations about the return of these competitions are ongoing and relevant announcements will be made in due course. 

Points to note: 

Adult Tournaments  

  • Entries will only be accepted from players who are Compete Members of Badminton England. 
  • Tournaments will only be staged in areas designated as Tier 1 by Government. 
  • Players living in Tier 2 areas may travel to competitions held in Tier 1 areas. 
  • Entries into tournaments will not be accepted from players living in Tier 3 areas. 

Junior Tournaments  

  • Entries will only be accepted from players who are Compete Members of Badminton England. 
  • Tournaments will be staged in areas designated as Tier 1 and Tier 2 by Government. No tournaments will be held in Tier 3 areas. 
  • Junior players living in Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas may travel to competitions held in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas. 

 

The reintroduction of competition is hugely exciting, and we very much look forward to our members resuming competitive play from January 2021. 

We know you have been waiting a long time to get back on court and we thank you for your patience while we ensure you can return safely and in line with Government guidance.
