Following the Government announcement, we are delighted by the news that badminton will be allowed to return once again in the updated three-tier–system of restrictions. While the measures don’t yet allow for a full return to play, it has been confirmed that badminton will be allowed across all tiers, as set out below:
- Tier One: In line with our existing ‘return to play’ protocols, the ‘rule of six’ applies (six per court, singles and doubles, multiple households)
- Tier Two: Singles only between players from multiple households. Doubles from same household or support bubble
- Tier Three: Play only within your household or support bubble
- Organised activity is permitted for under 18, education and disability in all tiers
With no badminton allowed since Wednesday 4 November, and the previous tier rules restricting most play to tier one areas, we are hugely encouraged that the Government has listened to our proposals and allowed a wider play to return.
There is still some way to go to get badminton back to full strength, and we still believe that badminton is safe to play among all tiers and will continue to work closely with our clubs, players and partners to ensure a return to play as quickly and as safely as possible.
We also welcome the first steps back to the return of spectators to sports venues. This is hugely important for the YONEX All England Championship, due to be staged in Birmingham in March next year.
We have now updated our hub with the most up to date guidance on the current three- tier system. Keep an eye on our social channels for more information.
