Badminton EnglandĀ is delighted, and extremely appreciative of the award made to badminton and the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships.
The YONEX All England is one of the biggest and most prestigious badminton tournaments in the world and because of being required to stage the Championships behind closed doors, and the impact that no fans in the Arena has had on our commercial revenues, we faced the prospect of the Championships being cancelled for the first time since the war.
The YONEX All England is also a critical part of Badminton England’s economy and the level of investment we are able to make into grass roots badminton.
Chief Executive Adrian Christy said:Ā āBecause of the Sport Winter Survival Package, and the incredible support and understanding of colleagues at the DCMS and Sport England throughout this extraordinary time, we can proceed with our plans to stage thisĀ world leadingĀ event under strict covid precautions whilst at the same time begin to plan for the restart and rebuilding of community badminton.ā
The Sport Winter Survival Package also enables us to still share the experience of the YONEX All England, and inspire,Ā our grassroots community through the establishment of BETV, a live streaming platformĀ that will show every match, on every court, on every day ofĀ the event for those who would have otherwise joined us in Birmingham this year and whom we look forward to welcoming back into the arenaĀ inĀ 2022.
