Badminton is unaffected by the change in Govt guidance

Following the Government update last night (9th September) and through our ongoing consultation with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Sport England, we are pleased to confirm that we can continue play under the current guidance and alsproceed with our Government approved progression to Phase 3.

The intended return of competition and league play as set out in Phase 3 of our Return to Play roadmap signals a significant step forward, whilst also offering a welcome return to ‘normal’ grassroots badminton as we know it. Our number one priority remains the safety of all players. We will, very shortly, release guidance on the return of league play and enhanced coaching ratios, but, for this reason, we are unable to reintroduce tournament play at this stage. Work is underway on new and innovative formats which will allow players to compete in tournaments.

All guidance we produce is thoroughly reviewed by DCMS before publication, ensuring that it meets the high standards and requirements necessary for a safe return. You have demonstrated that badminton can be delivered in a Covid secure manner when following guidance. The Government has confirmed that organised sports and activities that have approved return to play protocols, as badmintoncan continue.

“I have been in ongoing communication with Government and Sport England since March on our return to play. I am delighted that the ability of the badminton community to deliver badminton safely in line with our approved guidance has enabled the Government to confirm that organised sport can continue despite restrictions being tightened in other aspects of life. We are now able to move to Phase 3 and bring back league play, which many of you have told us is vital to your return. Our attention now turns to identifying ways of reintroducing tournament play.”
