Our eight Team GB athletes left the National Badminton Centre to set off on their journey to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games today.

The squad received an official send-off from staff, Board members, and the players’ friends and family.

The players and coaches left for Heathrow airport and will take an overnight flight to Brazil.

They arrive on August 3 and will have a few days to acclimatise to their surroundings before the competition begins.

Adrian Christy, Badminton England’s Chief Executive, said: “The moment has finally arrived for our team to travel to Rio.

“The players have invested many years of hard work, commitment and sacrifice to achieve qualification at the Olympic Games and I know I speak on behalf of everyone at Badminton England, along with our colleagues across the home nations, in wishing the players the very best of luck; I know they will be doing everything they can to make Great Britain proud.”
