Junior Rankings

New Junior Rankings System - Update

The time has come for the change over to the use of the players best 6 results. We believe that we have enough data and players played in a few tournaments now that using the best 6 results is a fairer way of showing the rankings. It will show some big movements on postions but will be a fairer reflection on the players ranking based on their performances rather than the average. I am still willing to listern to suggestions. Also probably for the January rankings there will be a filter on the age groups.

The monthly ranking lists will be uploaded to the website on the last Friday of every month, so any tournaments played after that friday even if in the same month will not be included in the rankings till the following month. If you have any queries or amendments you must appeal in writing. Resolved appeals will be amended on the following months ranking lists.

This season sees the introduction of a new rankings system. Player rankings will be calculated using a new points table and based on the best 6 results rolling over a 12 month period. The new points table is more specific to individual tournaments, and is being introduced for results from August 2009 onwards. Over the first 2 or 3 months, whilst the new ranking system is established, player rankings will be calculated based on their average ranking points. Points cannot be carried forward from last season - where a player does not yet have a 2009/10 ranking the end of 2008/9 season, rankings will be used as reference. We appreciate your understanding during this transition period which is necessary to enable future improvements and ensure that the Junior Ranking System does not suffer the same problems as last season.

Individual membership numbers are vital to the new system so if you are a member of BADMINTON England it is important to include this on your entry forms for tournaments. If you are unsure of your number you can contact the Membership department on membership@badmintonengland.co.uk.

We will be reviewing the new ranking system in January and will welcome any suggestions or comments. Please send these in writing to the ranking administrator.

Ranking appeals must be made in writing to the Rankings Administrator at martinhaxton@badmintonengland.co.uk. It must include an explanation of the query along with information of past tournaments and results.

As with last year English National Junior Ranking List includes all players below the age of 19.

The age group of the player is shown by the background colour:
Under 19 - clear/white
Under 17 - light tan
Under 15 - light blue
Under 13 - pale yellow
Under 11 - light green

For players under the age of seventeen, the different colour typeface indicates the grade of the player within their age group:
Grade 1 - red
Grade 2 - blue
Grade 3 - green
Ungraded - black

The rankings are based upon all tournaments listed in the Badminton Player’s Diary of Events – both senior and junior. The exceptions to this being team, invitation, restricted and Bonanza events.
