National Gradings

National Gradings

The National Gradings has been introduced for players of all ages and abilities to identify their individual playing standards - and then find sanctioned tournament circuits that meet their on court levels.

For the new 2013/14 season:

  • All players will be eligible to receive a BADMINTON England grading
  • New gradings will be released every 3 months (First run in October)
October - January - April - July. On the last Friday on that month
  • All BADMINTON England circuit events will be included in the grading system
  • Player gradings can be upgraded [promoted] or downgraded [relegated] based upon results in sanctioned tournaments
  • Circuit tournaments will be included in the gradings
  • Senior County Matches will be included from all divisions

To adjust your grading, you must first play a minimum of 4 qualifying matches in each 3 month period.  A qualifying match is:

  1. A win against a player/pair* of the same grade

  2. A win against a player/pair* of a higher grade

  3. A loss against a player/pair* of a lower grade

Players achieving a 70%+ win ratio will move up a grade.  Players achieving a 10% or less win ratio will move down a grade.

* For doubles the individuals grade will be compared to the average of the oppositions grades.

With the introduction of singles, doubles and mixed grades, all tournaments are now restricted by each individual event grade. For example a player may be restricted from the singles event but still eligible to compete in the doubles and mixed.
